Trips with Oomph!
Trips out and excursions are a vital part of living in a care home and Rusthall Lodge is no different. Over the years we have always had excursions to coffee shops, garden centres, into the town or down to the coast but transport has always been the most difficult thing to organise.
The challenge is that community transport and/or local carriers are either few and far between or they are cost restrictive, but we have found an excellent solution with OOMPH!
BEN ALLEN started the company several years ago and now has a fleet of specialist vehicles and trained drivers operating up and down the country. The drivers visit new destinations to complete risk assessments, determine where it’s best to park, check out the facilities; essentially acting as tour guides.
The company also has partner links with the National Trust and Theatres and Hospitality.
Determining who goes on the trips is something we’ve tried to do fairly. Names are drawn out of a hat for every trip with a few held in reserve in case people cannot go on the day. Currently we’re planning one trip per month and we are thinking of other initiatives we can put in place to increase this number.
Today (27 August 2019) a number of our residents made the half hour trip to Bewl Water. Bewl is the largest stretch of open water in the South East. The 800 acre site is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of the High Weald. Bewl Water is situated near the picturesque town of Lamberhurst and the beautiful Scotney Castle and the reservoir can hold more than 31,000 million litres of water – enough to provide for nearly 200 million people!
With the introduction of Oomph! to the wellbeing package at Rusthall Lodge, we hope this will be the start of yet another beneficial service for our residents and one that comes at no extra charge to you or the residents.
